ABOUT Regina

Your mental health matters, and I would love to contribute to your holistic healing and renewal. As a therapist, I am committed to your growth and flourishing. I have helped hundreds of clients over my 15+ years as a licensed psychotherapist (LCSW -CA & IL).

I am trained as a clinical social worker and provide psychotherapy because I know it works. I have seen the profound change not only in people’s lives, but in their families and communities.

I am also a professor, researcher and author and am committed to providing evidence-based therapies that I have studied and teach about in our work together.

I am committed to creating a warm and safe space where you can explore your own story, to discover and nurture—with compassion—a stronger sense of self. I want you to be able to show up as your best self at home, work, or school, and in all your relationships.

I often use mindfulness based therapies in my practice (DBT, somatic, and inner child work) & discuss issues from an existential lens. Authenticity, freedom, agency are working themes we will explore together. For more on my approach, hit the Home Page button below.

If you would like a faith-based focus in therapy, I am a Christian therapist who can support your healing by integrating spiritual practices in therapy should you desire a holistic approach.

As a Chinese-American, second-generation woman, I am proud of my heritage, story, and family. My identity is a strength I draw from in my work, and is a tool in the therapeutic space.

Together, and as your therapist, we will work on process & insight based skills, enfolded into cognitive skills. Trauma work will involve skills to ground you. I believe in conceptual homework to reinforce our work together.

I was trained at the Veterans Administration in downtown Los Angeles, where I first began working with vets experiencing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Substance Use Disorders.

I then worked at an Linden Oaks Hospital (part of Edward Hospital) in Naperville, IL in the inpatient, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient programs where I helped patients stabilize out of severe and/or chronic mental health challenges.

As a private practitioner, I have facilitated groups addressing postpartum depression, sexual assault and abuse, and have provided healing, therapeutic support to women and men facing crisis.

Currently, I am both a professor and practitioner, where I get to weave in the best of current research, with tried and true therapeutic skills in my work. I am committed to showing up in an authentic, compassionate and actively engaged way for my clients.

Below is a list of issues I treat and a list of techniques I use (having undergone years of study and training in their use and efficacy):
